Fangirlish | My Devotion to Carswell Thorne

Bonjour où Bonsoir, mes amis!  C'est Inas, la fille qui possède ce blog. It's been so long since I've posted here and now I need to clean this site up first.

By the way, that's Levi from Shingeki no Kyojin (進撃の巨人) or Attack on Titan. And no, I haven't watched the anime, only the live-action part 1 (it sucked). Sorry, guys.

So... you must be wondering why on earth am I posting, right? I mean, I made a huge fuss about how I'm not going to post for a WHOLE YEAR, yet here I am, making this post. Clearly, I have a problem with self-consistency. But, who cares?

À Plus Tard, Mes Amis!

Time flies so fast! It's been more than a year since the first time I posted a review on this blog. I was a freshman in high school at that time. Now? I'm a senior. And that means...

FINAL EXAMS, BABY

To Infinity and BOOM! | Illuminae

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

Genres: YA, Sci-Fi
Pages:  599

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

One does not simply review this oh-so-awesome book without freaking out and leaving a fangirlish mess all over the page. Therefore, forgive me if I do freak out and leave a mess.

First, lemme show you a .gif that sums up this book in utter perfection:

At first, when I found out about Rick Riordan's new book—new series!—I was part excited and part perplexed. I mean, yeay, another book! But I was also like, what? Another book?

Review:

I bought this book for one third of the original price at a book fair in my town. I checked the rating on Goodreads and it didn't even reach four stars. I reconsidered on buying this book. But, oh well, how bad could it be? Besides, I'd be able to buy it while it was cheap!

Turned out, I was pleasantly entertained by this Red Riding Hood retelling more than I could've thought possible.

A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.
Review:

I've been avoiding this book for as long as I can remember. Every time I saw it in a bookstore, I was never interested even in touching it. Why? Because it was about love! As a disease! It practically shouts the whole story line already. Of course the book would be about romance. Like, hundreds of pages of sickening romance. I predicted it'd be about a girl who (OF COURSE) eventually fell for a guy even though she wasn't supposed to.

But, well. I was wrong.

Review:

This book is a lot of things. But predictable isn't one of them.

I read through this finale with a HUGE expectation because seriously, I've been waiting for it for a whole year! And well, I didn't exactly get what I wanted.

A quirky, adventurous retelling of Sleeping Beauty, with a less than princess-ly princess!

WOOHOO! Today, I'm going to share the cover of a new retelling of Sleeping Beauty, written by Katie Hamstead.

As you can see from the blurb, it's not just some other retelling, it's a very BADASS retelling with ANTIMAINSTREAM plot and BADASS HEROINE! How awesome is that! You know how I feel about retellings, especially after finishing The Lunar Chronicles, I can't wait to get my hands on this book! And oh! It has a very PRETTY cover, did I tell you? How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.
Review:

OH MY GOSH

Those three words pretty much sum up my general reaction throughout the whole book.

The Infinite Sea continues some time (not too long) after the end of The 5th Wave. Evan hasn't come (as he promised) yet, but the crew/team/whatever-you-want-to-call-it can't stay in the hotel for long because winter is coming. They'll need a better shelter. So, Ringer volunteers to go look for the cavern they knew about from a pamphlet. And from there, things got interesting.

Our Picks | 2015

Heeeyy!! I know it's February and WAY past 2015. But, I still can't move on from some of the books I read last year. Let's just say, some of them really really had a special place in my heart. I'm going to list five books here, while the other five will be listed by Kelechi. And this list isn't sorted by the most favorite to the least ones, okay? I love them all the same.

She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies
REVIEW

I probably shouldn't have liked this book as much as I did. But, the truth is.. I freakin' did. I read reviews on Goodreads before buying this book, turned the popular ones were the negative ones. Therefore, I lowered my expectations and bought only the first book in the series in case I'm no longer interested in reading the rest of the series.

SHORT REVIEW

I was glad I had Life After The Undead as my first zombie novel ever. It has everything I could ever ask for in a novel featuring my favorite creatures in fictional worlds. It has a badass heroine. Like, really badass. Krista isn't easily intimidated, she stands up for herself, and I found myself liking her more and more each page. She's also smart and knows how to do her thing. My favorite line from her is exactly the same thing I would think of if I were in her shoes, or well.. mine.

Troubled teen. Juvenile delinquent. Aja Harmon is familiar with the labels. She and her mom live like gypsies, moving every year. Her mom works as a psychic and Aja fights to suppress her own intuitive abilities because the power scares her. After losing a cool job at Abercrombie & Fitch, the only work Aja can find is as a waitress at an elderly residence home. Slowly she begins to enjoy working with the seniors. Unlikely bonds forge, making their worlds bigger while shrinking the generation gap.

If only a corrupt police officer hadn't set his sights on Aja—a beautiful girl with a sketchy past. An easy target to add to his twisted collection.

Snow Globe is a story about a teen who tries to do the right thing but continues to find trouble with her smart mouth and fearless attitude. Working at the assisted living facility, Aja learns compassion and how important yet fragile life is.
Review:

Snow Globe was one of the most thrilling novels I've read so far. I had goosebumps all the way from the beginning to the end. I had a bit difficulty trying to figure out the genre. I know it says Fantasy and Supernatural, but those two aspects are more like accompanying aspects rather than significant ones. If you expect to read a story of a psychic girl who fights demons and ghosts and stuff like that, then you won't get what you're looking for. Because this novel isn't exactly a supernatural novel, it's more about the struggle of life for a girl with dark past and abnormal mom who's the perfect portrayal of a hippie.

Bloggish | E-ARCs and E-Books I Got in 2015

Whew, can't believe 2015 has passed! It's 2016 and I'm still the same as ever. Well, guess what. I just started this blog last year on March... or February, I think, and I already got a few e-ARCs and Ebooks for reviewing! I know they're not hard copies like I prefer them to be. But, it still counts as something. The thing is, I live in the middle of nowhere and no publishers would send a free hard copy to someone who lives outside of the U.S or England or Canada.

Okay, so now I'm gonna show you some titles of the review copies or ARCs I got in 2015. They're all electronic, of course. Some of them might have been reviewed before and you can read their reviews if you click the link (if there's one).

Okay, I have to be honest. I didn't know that this book was the second in a series. I requested this book from NetGalley and read it at once without knowing there's a book I'm supposed to read first called Sing Sweet Nightingale. But, even though that's what happened, I still understood the story and nothing confused me at all. Later, I found out this was because the two books are narrated by different narrators and there's a huge time gap in between the events of the books.

Okay, moving on...
