Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.
Review:

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is a journey filled with so many jumbled emotions that I'm not even sure where to begin.

"You." The word was spat out at her, full of hatred. "What have you done to me?"

We will have the chapters going back and forth so that we can see what's happening with Cinder, Kai, and Scarlet at different places. It's actually a good thought, really. Because this book provides more new characters and their story when basically we are also very curious about what happens to our heroes and heroines in the previous book (Cinder). The only thing that's gonna be the problem is that we won't be able to get to know our characters like we did on the first book in which we get a whole book just to get to know them. In this book, we have to split our attention to Cinder, Kai, and the new characters such as Thorne, Scarlet, and Wolf.

I can only imagine what it would be like on the next sequels because then we would have fewer chapters to get to know the new characters.

But, Marissa Meyer totally proved me wrong.

It may seem like that on the first chapters on this book. It would probably seem like it's too fast paced and we won't be able to know our characters like we actually wanted to. But, as I kept reading this book, I realized that neither the actions nor the interactions of the characters seemed rushed and forced because they would just click together and fit perfectly into each other.

She trailed her finger down a long scar that had once been a gash from wrist to elbow. "I'll stop worrying when this is all over. When we're all safely away from them."

We continue where we left off in the first book, Cinder wanting to escape and so in this book Cinder managed to escape with the help of a convict named Captain Carswell Thorne, an American pilot who flirted so much and owned a spaceship in which they escaped to. They decided to look for Michelle Benoit, the woman who helped Logan Tarner bring Princess Selene to Earth in order to find out more about the Princess. On the other hand, Michelle Benoit had actually been missing for two weeks and her granddaughter, Scarlet Benoit was in a desperate attempt to find her. She crossed path with a street fighter named Wolf (a.k.a Ze'ev Kesley) who knew something about her grandmother whereabouts. Together they all will find a way to take down Queen Levana.

“I knew they would kill me when they found out, but…” He struggled for words, releasing a sharp breath. “I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.”

The characters.
And oh the characters.
Did I tell you that I'm totally in love with Wolf?
I really liked his demeanor. He's shy, adorable while being vicious, protective, and frightening at the same time. Just like wolves are. His relationship with Scarlet didn't feel forced or rushed because it wasn't exactly insta love (ugh) when they actually just encountered each other a few days before taking off together. They went through troubles, difficulties, and despite the fact that they barely knew each other, they had to trust each other in order to survive and that's basically how they got together. Because they understood what the other went through and I had to swoon every time they interact.

Scarlet was a badass and that's what I mostly seek in my novels. She took care of herself and made decisions on her own while not being stupid about it. She was independent, heck she even used a shotgun to defend herself, how badass was that?

Thorne was cocky and full of himself, but he was also endearing and hard to resist. His presence always creates a lighter mood in the room and I just don't know what would happen if it weren't for him. He had a huge part in this book and he really grew on me

All in all, it would be a shame if you miss this amazing book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
